A propos du centre ou de la direction fonctionnelle

Inria is the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science, of which the Inria Côte d'Azur University Center is a part. With strong expertise in computer science and applied mathematics, the research projects of the Inria Côte d'Azur University Center cover all aspects of digital science and technology and generate innovation. Based mainly in Sophia Antipolis, but also in Nice and Montpellier, it brings together 47 research teams and nine support services. It is active in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, IT system security, robotics, network engineering, natural risk prevention, ecological transition, digital biology, computational neuroscience, health data, and more. The Inria Center at Université Côte d'Azur is a major player in terms of scientific excellence, thanks to the results it has achieved and its collaborations at both European and international level.

Contexte et atouts du poste

This job offer is part of a recently launched ANR grant titled “AUDACITIES: Revealing fundamental invariants and transitions of complex multiscale patient data: life-span study”, in partnership with the University of Luxembourg (UL), namely Prof. Jorge Goncalves (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine).

The postdoctoral contract is for an initial period of 12 months, and we have funds to renew it. Beyond the close interaction with the group of Prof. Goncalves, co-PI of the grant funding this project, the study is part of an international research program that we are organizing in close collaboration with specialists on neurodegeneration, aging and digital health. In particular, the group of Prof. Tamas Fülöp (clinician) at the University of Sherbrooke (Canada) and that of Prof. Serafim Rodrigues (Mathematical, Computational and Experimental Neuroscience, Data Science) at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM, Bilbao, Spain).

Mission confiée

Assignments :

The project aims to unveil quasi-invariant biological laws, their transitions and the emergence of aging contained in unique anonymized human lifespan dataset from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study on Aging (BLSA, National Institute on Aging, NIH, USA). The work will involve extensive use of data-scientific methods, in particular topological and geometrical data analysis. A summary of the project is available through the ANR website here.

Collaboration. The recruited person will be supervised by Mathieu Desroches and Fabien Campillo (MathNeuro, Montpellier) and will work in close collaboration with the MathNeuro team, as well as, the team of Profs. Goncalves (Luxembourg), Fülöp (Sherbrooke) and Rodrigues (Bilbao).

Principales activités

  • Data Preprocessing: organization, cleaning and normalization, complete inventory of the data, statistical analysis, removal of non-informative data
  • Topological data analysis and higher-order structure: build necessary frameworks for the analysis, higher-order multi-layered network analysis, link to the machine learning approach developed within the team at UL, identification of invariants and discovery of biomarkers
  • The postdoc will be based in Montpellier with frequent visits to UL, Bilbao and Sherbrooke.

Compétences

  • Programming (preferably Python)
  • Topological data analysis
  • Proficiency in data science and artificial intelligence
  • Previous experience with aging studies will be a plus
