Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M [Campagne Post-Doc] - Novel algorithms for polynomial system solving
Contract type : Fixed-term contract
Level of qualifications required : PhD or equivalent
Fonction : Post-Doctoral Research Visit
Context
The selected candidate will do her/his research at the OURAGAN team which is a joint team of Inria Paris and IMJ-PRG Sorbonne Université. She/he will be located at Sorbonne Université and will (mainly) work with Elias Tsigaridas.
Assignment
Polynomial systems solving is one of the central problems in computational algebra with applications in the whole range of science and engineering. Nevetheless, it is a hard problem and efficient algorithms take into account the structure and the geometry of input polynomials to compute the solutions efficiently and accurately. A recent trend, of particular importance and with quite promising intial results, relies on the rather recent field of tropical geometry to develop algorithm for polynomial system solving. This approach enhaces tranditional techniques based on symbolic methods, like resultant and Groebner basis, or numerical algorithms, like homotopy continuation.
Main activities
We seek for a postdoctoral researtcher to work on efficient algorithms for polynomial systems solving based on resultant computations and tropical geometry. The focus will be on structured polynomial systems and their applications in control theory.
Skills
The candidate is expected to hold a research phd in mathematics, applied mathematics or computer science.
