About the research centre or Inria department
The Inria centre at Université Côte d'Azur includes 37 research teams and 8 support services. The centre's staff (about 500 people) is made up of scientists of different nationalities, engineers, technicians and administrative staff. The teams are mainly located on the university campuses of Sophia Antipolis and Nice as well as Montpellier, in close collaboration with research and higher education laboratories and establishments (Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS, INRAE, INSERM ...), but also with the regiona economic players.
With a presence in the fields of computational neuroscience and biology, data science and modeling, software engineering and certification, as well as collaborative robotics, the Inria Centre at Université Côte d'Azur is a major player in terms of scientific excellence through its results and collaborations at both European and international levels.
Context
We are opening a 1-year postdoctoral position at Inria, within the DataShape group. The successful candidate will collaborate with Clément Maria (www-sop.inria.fr/members/Clement.Maria/). The starting date is flexible, and should be before October 1st 2024. The position will be funded through the ANR project AlgoKnot.
Candidates should provide:
- a complete CV, with a list of publications, and dates of availability for the position,
- a cover letter, with at least two names of established researchers that would be willing to provide a reference letter upon request.
Assignment
Assignments :
The recruited person will be pursuing research on algorithmic, computational complexity, and combinatorial questions in low dimensional topology and/or quantum topology. A non-exhaustive list of possible directions for research include:
- data structures and basic algorithms in low dimensional topology/quantum topology,

- combinatorial and topological complexity of knots and 3-manifolds, in connection with algorithms,
- advanced C++/Python software development in the field.
Main activities
- pursue fundamental research on algorithmic, computational complexity, and combinatorial questions in low dimensional topology and/or quantum topology,
- write research articles and disseminate results.
Skills
A good knowledge of some aspects of low dimensional topology and/or quantum topology is recommended, as well as an interest for algorithms, computational complexity, and combinatorics.
