About the research centre or Inria department

Created in 2008, the Inria center at the University of Lille employs 360 people, including 305 scientists in 15 research teams. Recognized for its strong involvement in the socio-economic development of the Hauts-De-France region, the Inria center at the University of Lille maintains a close relationship with large companies and SMEs. By fostering synergies between researchers and industry, Inria contributes to the transfer of skills and expertise in the field of digital technologies, and provides access to the best of European and international research for the benefit of innovation and businesses, particularly in the region.

For over 10 years, the Inria center at the University of Lille has been at the heart of Lille's university and scientific ecosystem, as well as at the heart of Frenchtech, with a technology showroom based on avenue de Bretagne in Lille, on the EuraTechnologies site of economic excellence dedicated to information and communication technologies (ICT).

Context

As part of the ANR SmartCloud project, the objective is to develop a coordination prototype based on behavioral models of Cloud Computing systems describing their capabilities, their functional modes and the use of resources to provide a control infrastructure (to ensure the safety of operation of said systems), on the one hand, and monitoring and optimization (to ensure efficient use of resources), on the other hand.

This position may require travel for project meetings or participation in scientific conferences. In this case, travel expenses will be covered within the limits of the scale in force.

Assignment

Missions:
In close collaboration with the members of the Spirals team, the recruited person will be required to analyze and improve existing models and software (e.g. JavaBIP), to propose, specify and implement new models and software (service capabilities, functional modes, use of resources, coordination based on Cloud Computing system models).

Collaboration:
In addition to the SPIRALS team, the recruited person will be in contact with the SmartCloud project partners, namely:

  • the OLAS team (Inria Bologna), which contributes to the definition of the formalisms used for modeling
  • the industrial partner, which contributes to the definition of case studies and provides the platform for their implementation and evaluation

Responsibilities:
The recruited person is responsible for proposing models and developing prototypes implementing these models. They will lead the design of the software architecture in order to ensure its good maintainability and integrability with the evaluation platforms.

Main activities

Main activities:

  • Analyze existing behavioral models for Cloud Computing systems
  • Propose new models in line with the needs of the project
  • Propose architectural solutions for the development of prototype software implementing coordination based on the proposed models
  • Design experimental platforms to evaluate performance and identify bottlenecks

Additional activities:

  • Write documentation
  • Write reports
  • Present the progress of the work to partners and the scientific community

Skills

Technical skills and required level:

  • Proven experience in developing meta-controllers for self-adaptive systems
  • Advanced programming skills (Java, C++, Python)
  • Daily experience with development tools (Spring-Boot 2-3, Maven, Junit, GitHub, GitLab, etc.) ...
  • ... and writing (LaTeX, MS Office, etc.)
