Contexte et atouts du poste

  • The selected candidate will do her/his research at the OURAGAN team which is a joint team
    of Inria Paris and IMJ-PRG Sorbonne Université. She/he will be located at Sorbonne Université.
  • There is a possibility for an one year extension.
  • The position is funded by an Inria exploratory action.

Mission confiée

Two of the most important ingredients behind the modern techniques and tools in data science are sampling and optimization algorithms. Even more, their applicability spans the whole spectrum of computer science and engineering. The need is for algorithms amenable to efficient implementations that scale to thousands of dimensions and also have theoretical guarantees both of their running time and the quality of the output. For this we need to exploit the geometry and the structure of the input, to understand in depth the required algebraic operations,  and to employ novel algorithmic techniques.

Principales activités


The selected candidate will work at the intersection of optimization, high-dimensional geometry, and algebraic algorithms. There is a primary focus on new algorithms and implementations for algorithmic inference, high-dimensional sampling, and convex optimization.

Candidates should have PhD in mathematics, computer science or a related area; expertise in 
computational algebra and/or geometry and/or C++ is highly desirable.
