Contexte et atouts du poste

A wide range of valuable applications use extrusion 3D printing. However, extrusion-based 3D printing poses significant challenges when operations with paste-like materials (e.g., ceramics, silicone), even when manufacturing on a small scale [1]. The deposition paths have to take into account gravity to prevent the structure from collapsing during fabrication, and deposition paths should be as continuous as possible to minimize the interruptions of the extrusion flow [2].

Mission confiée

The Ph.D. student will focus on the study of novel path planning algorithms for extrusion-based 3D printing technologies.
In addition, the student will be fully involved in the experimental printing and testing of structures.
Most of the conducted research will involve the accurate formulation of the path planning problem, the study and development of efficient and tailored algorithms, and the 3D printing and final verification of the printed structures.

Principales activités

The major competencies sought for the doctoral student are:
* Background in computer science or related field.
* Motivation to work on problems at the intersection of computer science and additive manufacturing that involve getting hands-on with 3D printing experimentation
* Good level of English
Additional experience in 3D printing and computational geometry will be considered an asset.

Monthly salary after taxes : around 1596 € for 1st and 2nd year, 1679€ for 3rd year.
