Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a measurement of the amount of light absorbed by tissues, including blood vessels. This measurement depends on the amount of blood present in the tissues. The PPG is thus considered as a measure of the volume of blood (arterial and venous) present at a certain moment in the tissue. This project aims at estimating blood pressure in the humanan wrist (systolic/diastolic) from PPG measurements, through the development of mathematical models of PPG measurement and suitable estimation methods.



Principales activités

The post-doctoral project proposes to address this problem via a hybrid approach which builds on a hierarchy of mathematical models (PPG and blood flow measurement) of increasing complexity: from a simple 0D model (Windkessel RC) to a 3D poroelastic model of the tissue which links the PPG measurement to the level of tissue perfusion.

Candidates must hold a doctorate in applied mathematics, an have interest in biomedical applications and some experience in the following fields: mathematical modeling, discretization of PDEs, fluid-structure interaction models, model reduction.

Technical Skills: C/C++ programming skills required.
